Server Time Issue

Postby NicholasJay » January 20th, 2010, 2:40 pm

I'm posting this at 2:42 or 2:43 PM, EST. I appears the server is off by about an hour (it says my message was posted at 3:40 PM), or is that just me? Maybe I should check my profile settings...

The settings in my User Control Panel say that I'm at UTC -5, Eastern Standard Time, so it appears that the server/host/software/whatever is ahead by about 57 minutes. Does anyone else see this issue?

Very good, thank you. That solved my issue. [sarcasm] We can put a man on the moon, but we can't update daylight savings time automatically? [/sarcasm]

This server uses NTP to keep the time synced up because I'm essentially lazy. Also cause if it gets too far off from the other machines in the network, evil things begin to happen. The board software is open source - there's probably a hack for updating DST settings...

The server time is right, but the forum software takes the position that "our users could be anywhere, therefore we are not going to automatically adjust any of them because we can't possibly know their local customs." CAR folks have been bugging me about this for two major forum upgrades, and it's not getting any better.
I watched a prostitute stab a clown. I saw a baby give another baby a tattoo. They were both very drunk.

But does it really matter? If I have my settings different than everyone else's, it will change ALL of the times that I see, ie: all times are shown local to the settings chosen. So, you could not change your settings, claim dibbs on something offered for free, and then have your post show up BEFORE a post that has already happened. Is it of minor annoyance? Perhaps, but I think that there are bigger issues in this world, and that Ben et all have been doing a great job!
