Where and when is the March get together?

Blah.. Blah.. Blah..

Where and when is the March get together?

Postby Sam Powell » March 6th, 2010, 9:56 pm

I see no mention of a March dinner/social. Are we not having one this month? I cleared the 3rd Thursday this month especially for the meeting. There is not a Post New Topic button in the meetings news section, so had to post here. Do I have to go all the way to Myrtle Beach to see you guys?

It'll most likely be at the Greene Turtle in Laurel on the 18th, but I'm sure Sharon will be posting it up soon.

It will be the third Thursday, and it will be at the Green Turtle. We are looking for other locations to spice things up, but many seem not to want us.

Don't worry, cancellations are rare.

That's just down the street from Wayne's. After our meeting, let's camp out in front of his shop, help him clean the shop on Friday and the do the Tech Day on Saturday!...or not.

Wayne paid a kid looking for work to clean up the shop this week.

One of 4 lifts is down.

Wayne will be provide Coffee and Donuts in the am and Pizza for lunch.

We need to supply any other refreshments

Does anyone have a battery powered soldering tool as well as a few heat shrink tubings? Seems his trailer needs rewiring.

Is Wayne still taking donations from the membership to get the beach wheelchair? It would be good to mention that in advance for people that haven't been there before.

This month is at Italia's Corner Cafe as Christian has posted. Always check club events section as I have been trying to work this angle. It's been very hard to replace Rocky Run as our second place because most establishments I have been in contact with want numbers to work with and as we know it varies. The other problem is most don't meet the requirements of parking, beer and area to have a meeting in. Had our numbers been better at the meeting we had at DuClaw in Bowie after I had discussion with the manager there, we would probably would have our second location because I am pretty sure he would have worked with us. Sadly, the following meeting was a very poor showing. In addition, their beer releases seem to be on Thursdays which is another reason they don't want to reserve their room for us. One would think that it would be REALLY easy to secure a place in this economy, but it appears it's just the opposite. I won't go there with what I just went through with Looney's, but suffice it to say they will never get a dollar of money from us.

I would however like to throw out a place that Mike and I dine at (well known by Dave, Debs and Jason and I believe Tom) and they would absolutely LOVE to host us.....Giannis in Arbutus. Mike talked to the manager on one of our visits there very informally. They have kick ASS crabcakes, but only a very small bottle beer selection....nothing exotic...a few domestics and Peroni. The prices are a little higher and there is no $3 off burger, however seriously, the crabcake is to die for....and the Italian isn't bad either! The drawbacks are the lack of decent beer, no dedicated room (they will sit us off on the side though) and prices are not what the Greene Turtle's are. I don't want us to have any issues with the check at the end due to misunderstandings. We were thinking of doing a Sunday Brunch ride there sometime in late spring and seeing if they would accommodate us for that, but we could give it a try for a meeting if we have people would would like to. The menu is on their website. http://www.giannisitalianbistro.com/ The crabcake platter is priced at $15 they have a great loitering area. If you are up for trying it, let me know either on this thread or via a PM. We love the place, but I know many are watching their funds and it's not like we are not, but I also know from going to the supermarket that food costs. They are not a franchise, but that's also why they are more open to accommodating us.

Also, I am not sure if the $3 off burger is going to be offered at the Greene Turtle on Thursdays any longer. The Laurel one might as they are a franchisee we found out, but we went to Arundel Mills location and were told they were going to be offering a value menu for $5 and that appears to be the case as I just saw one of their commercials this morning.

Yeah, we'll just park the whole club on Northern Parkway ;)

We might be able to do that at Ryan's Daughter, or Belvedere Square. Sadly, there's no easy parking at Brewer's Art :)

Sounds like you and I need to have a special session/breakout meeting. I know quite a few here that would gladly bring the OTM just to get to Brewer's Art.

If we go to Brewer's Art, 1/2 of us wouldn't be able to drive home afterwards (the beer is that good). I always need to conscript my significant other as designated driver, fight for parking, and sit in the crowded front bar, and still keep going back.

Sharon, sorry about Looney's, everything there fits the requirements except the management. I've been there a dozen times, and its packed every single time; regardless of day or time - so I can see why there are not very accomodating - they just don't need our money (right now) The curious thing is that two of the other large restaurants in that development have recently gone out of business, so you think they would be more forward looking. Keep up the hard work, we definitely appreciate it.
